Proton P3-22A Spyshots: clearest pics yet of Proton’s upcoming 5-door Preve hatchback

These spyshots of the P3-22A Proton Preve Hatchback are probably the clearest and most high resolution we’ve seen so far. They were captured by reader Akmal along a route from Genting Highlands onto the Duke Highway, and then joining up to the NKVE.

According to Akmal, the Proton Preve sedan that you can see in one of the photos was escorting the P3-22A hatchback, and at one point it even squeezed into a space in between Akmal’s car and the P3-22A while they were in the same lane, presumably to prevent photos from being snapped. We were told there was some tailgating and random braking going on to deter avid spyshot snappers on the road.

It seems that whenever the P3-22A is out for testing, there’s an escort nearby, giving some weight to the theory that the Polo Sedan that suddenly started tailgating the P3-22A in another video could have been an escort wanting to obstruct the rear view of the P3-22A to prevent photography.

Enjoy the spyshots below as Akmal managed to get plenty of angles, including the full-on side angle shot you see above, which was possible because the P3-22A slowed down after a toll booth to wait for the Preve sedan to catch up. Check out our P3-22A category for more coverage.

DRB-Hicom expected to speed up Proton City development

PETALING JAYA: The planned RM1bil investment by DRB-Hicom Bhd to accelerate the development of Proton City in Tanjung Malim, Perak over the next five years may be a move to consolidate Proton’s manufacturing activities in a single location, automotive analysts say.

They pointed out that news reports had claimed that Proton’s manufacturing land bank of 250 acres in Shah Alam could have a gross development value of more than RM1bil.

“We think that a property development play of the Shah Alam land bank would be a good move, as the value of the Shah Alam real estate can be extracted to fund Proton’s plans,” said an analyst.

However, other analysts pointed out that DRB-Hicom would need to look at issues such as the costs of moving the production facilities from Shah Alam to Tanjung Malim as well as employees’ concerns.

“It would not be easy because employees in Shah Alam are not keen on moving to Tanjung Malim. Also, would DRB-Hicom want to incur the one-time costs and deal with the hassles of moving all the equipment and facilities?” one analyst questioned.

Another analyst said the reported planned RM1bil investment by DRB-Hicom was likely to be more of a property development play in Proton City.

“Based on the news reports, this is not just about investing in machines and vehicle production facilities. Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir had spoken about infrastructure development in the area, including better road access to Proton City from the North-South Expressway as well as building commercial areas and schools,” he noted.

OSK Research said in a report late last year that a potential sale of Proton’s Shah Alam land bank could fetch at least RM500mil. The research unit also pointed out that DRB-Hicom could be keen on developing Proton’s land bank in Shah Alam for its housing development arm.

Automotive conglomerate DRB-Hicom took over and privatised national carmaker Proton earlier this year.

Dr Zambry was recently reported as saying the development of the 4,000-acre Proton City is set to be re-ignited after slowing down since it started 15 years ago.

Model gantian Perdana guna platform Nissan Fuga





Penggunaan enjin 2.5 liter naik taraf versi eksekutif, premium PROTON

PROTON Holdings Bhd akan melancarkan model gantian Proton Perdana, sama ada pada Mac atau April ini yang akan menggunakan platform Nissan Fuga dengan kapasiti enjin 2.5 liter. Sumber industri berkata, bagaimanapun buat permulaan model yang akan diimport sepenuhnya (CBU) dari Jepun itu hanya dipasarkan khusus untuk kegunaan kereta rasmi pegawai tinggi kerajaan.
“Sebagai permulaan, sebanyak 150 unit akan diimport dari Jepun dan ia dibawa masuk khusus untuk kereta rasmi pegawai tinggi kerajaan, tetapi jika mendapat maklum balas memberangsangkan daripada pasaran, PROTON akan menimbangkan untuk memasarkannya secara komersial,” katanya pada Berita Harian di Kuala Lumpur, baru-baru ini.

Fuga adalah kereta mewah Nissan yang menggunakan platform Nissan FM. Ia mula diperkenalkan di Jepun pada Oktober 2004.

Nissan Skyline, kereta sport mewah Nissan yang menjadi ‘kegilaan’ generasi muda Jepun turut menggunakan platform Nissan FM.

Fuga bersaing dalam pasaran kereta mewah eksekutif seperti Toyota Crown, Honda Legend, Mercedes-Benz E-class, Audi A6, BMW 5 series dan Jaguar XF.
Ia adalah kereta pertama dunia yang memperkenalkan teknologi sistem kawalan pedal bijak yang membantu pemandunya mengawal jarak selamat dengan kenderaan lain ketika pemanduan sama ada di kawasan bandar serta di lebuh raya.

Sumber itu berkata, penggunaan enjin lebih berkuasa untuk model gantian Perdana itu bertujuan menaik taraf kereta versi eksekutif dan premium PROTON ke tahap baru dan berupaya bersaing dengan model seperti Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata atau Kia Optima di pasaran tempatan.

Katanya, selain untuk bersaing dalam kelasnya, penggunaan enjin yang lebih berkuasa itu juga bertujuan membezakan penggunaan enjin Proton Perdana dengan Proton Inspira yang turut menggunakan enjin 2.0 liter.

Sumber itu berkata, penggunaan Nissan Fuga itu menandakan permulaan kerjasama antara PROTON dengan Nissan Motor Company Ltd, iaitu firma automotif yang berpangkalan di Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Jepun.

“Ia (kerjasama dengan Nissan) susulan pengambilalihan kepentingan dalam Renault F1 Team yang dibuat PROTON menerusi anak syarikatnya, Group Lotus plc daripada Nissan yang dimuktamadkan awal Disember lalu.

“Menerusi pengambilalihan itu, selain membuka laluan buat PROTON terbabit dalam perlumbaan Formula Satu, ia turut membantu mengetengahkan beberapa program kerjasama baru lain antara PROTON dan Nissan, dan model penggantian Perdana adalah permulaan kerjasama antara kedua-dua pengeluar kereta berkenaan,” katanya.

Katanya, permulaan itu juga dijangka menjurus kepada kerjasama lebih serius di mana Nissan akan menggunakan kemudahan pengeluaran Proton di Tanjong Malim untuk mengeluarkan beberapa versi model lain tidak lama lagi, sekali gus membantu Proton memaksimumkan kapasiti pengeluaran kilang berkenaan.

Proton Satria Neo S2000 Edition Supercharged Concept at Plaza Angsana JB

This Proton Satria Neo CPS done up in a yellow paint job ala Proton’s S2000 rally car is being showcased at Plaza Angsana JB, in conjunction with the 2012 Malaysian Rally. This yellow Satria Neo CPS wears a bodykit that might go on sale soon – a tentative price of RM4,xxx has been set and availability as well as the final product will depend on the feedback Proton R3 gets from the visitors at the showcase.

But what’s more interesting is what’s under the hood of this particular concept. A source told us that a limited 300 units production run of a supercharged Satria Neo CPS may go on sale early next year. The Campro CPS engine (not the Campro CFE turbo engine) is supercharged, and apparently peak torque is about 192Nm at 5,900rpm. The supercharger is supposed to have a clutch and will only engage at higher RPMs so it won’t rob power from the crank at low RPMs.

This is not the first time we’ve seen a supercharged Proton Satria Neo. We previously saw a black Satria Neo CPS done up in colors that mimic a Lotus Renault GP F1 car sometime in April 2011. It had a Sprintex supercharger under its hood and power output was stated to be 180 horsepower and 200Nm.

Earlier this year, we saw yet another supercharged Neo at the Proton Power of 1 event, and that car was called the Artiga Concept. Power figures for that car was quoted to be 180 horsepower, which is the same as the 2011 car, but quoted torque figures was higher at 240Nm.

The torque figure from the 2011 car is closer to the figure quoted for this new yellow concept, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this new supercharged Neo continues to be powered by a Sprintex supercharger based kit.
